Announcing an Opportunity to Read CLC Grant ApplicationsWhen: February 10-11, 2010 Where: La Quinta Inn & Suites, Madison, WI The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) is preparing for the 2010-2011 CLC grant competition and we are in need of qualified individuals willing to participate in the reward process by reading applications. The opportunity to review for the grant applications offers an excellent opportunity for readers to improve their grant writing skills and gain a unique insight into the Wisconsin CLC grant award process. Past readers have shared that the process provided them with a new perspective of the program and helped them when preparing their application for the next competition. In an effort to be objective and avoid a conflict of interest, we ask that readers not be affiliated with an applicant agency. The DPI will provide meals and reimburse related expenses incurred travelling to and from Madison and accommodations. Readers will review and score a group of applications individually and with a small group. Reader application and guidelines Applications and questions should be submitted to Gary Sumnicht, gary.sumnicht@dpi.wi.gov or (608) 267-5078. Title I Funds able to be used to support Extended Learning OpportunitiesThe recent passage of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) will lead to a significant increase in the availability of Title I funds. A memo to CLC program coordinators from the office of Assistant State Superintendent Carolyn Stanford Taylor explains how these funds may be used in support of after-school programs and other extended learning opportunities. On March 30, 2009, DPI hosted a Wisline-Web conference to review the appropriate use of Title I funds to support afterschool activities. A PDF of the PowerPoint presentation can be found here.
