Educational Assistant - Entry - WCBVI

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI), Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI), 1700 West State Street, Janesville, Wisconsin currently has two full-time school year Educational Assistant – Entry positions. The employment register established from this recruitment will be used to fill both full-time and part-time school year vacancies at WCBVI during the next six months.

Starting pay is $12.84 per hour, plus excellent benefits. This position is in pay schedule 06, range 10. A six-month probationary period is required.

Job Duties

Assist classroom teachers and child care counselors in the instructional program and residential program for visually handicapped and multi-handicapped students. Implement learning activities as directed by teachers; supervise students in the classroom and/or in non-classroom activities; assist individual students with learning tasks; and supervise them during community-based activities; assist students with dormitory and dining room activities.

Special Notes

If appointed you will be required to be licensed as a special Education Program Aide (883) by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. This license will be requested by the WCBVI. NOTE: A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Special needs of children with disabilities and multiple disabilities; daily independent living skills, and needs; safety factors related to supervising children with disabilities. Well-qualified applicants will have experience working with visually impaired children and/or multi-handicapped visually impaired children.
