Mission

The mission of the DPI Content and Learning Team is to enhance the scope and quality of teaching and learning in Wisconsin schools through leadership, innovation, collaboration, communication, and service.

Key strategies for accomplishing this mission include:

  • Effective professional development for school personnel, organizations, and agencies.
  • Leadership in development and dissemination of curriculum standards and resources.
  • Advocacy on behalf of effective local, state, and federal policies and practices in the content areas.
  • Collaboration to utilize current technologies and data for educational improvement.
  • Identification and dissemination of best educational practices.
  • Leadership to embrace diversity and a global perspective in education.
  • Securing and managing specialized funding to support local initiatives.
Draft Revisions to the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards:
English Language Arts and Mathematics


The Department of Public Instruction presents draft versions of Wisconsin's Model Academic Standards in English language arts and mathematics. These standards will be finalized later in the 2009-2010 school year in order to ensure alignment with the national Common Core State Standards Initiative. Read more and access the draft versions.
